Thanks = Giving
You know you've lived through something extraordinary when a tree falls onto your house, leaving large holes in your roof; you spend three days homebound because there are no navigable roads; eight days without power, heat, or running water; thirteen days without an internet connection... and everyone nods solemnly when you describe yourself as fortunate.
Getting back to normal is certainly a relief, but don't forget that there are tens of thousands whose old "normal" is gone, washed out to sea or buried under tons of sand. Keep them in your thoughts and prayers this Thanksgiving.
Better yet, make a donation to the relief agency of your choice. Not sure which one to pick? Charity Navigator will give you the lowdown on how each spends your money.
