New Reviews
Answers to the top three questions about Tony Lawless at TradConnect.com and Mike Farragher at the Irish Voice/IrishCentral.com :
- No, I did not pay them.
- No, we are not related.
- No, they are not deaf.
They simply dig my scene, they're down wid my jam, they grok my essence. And they say things like this:

CD Release *Event* This Friday!
OK, so we're planning this big musical event for Friday, October 19, at 7:30pm. I had been calling it a "CD Release Party," but I've been chastised by more than one person that (ahem) one does not charge admission to a party. (Obviously they've never celebrated a birthday with me, but, point taken.)
To be clear: This event, to mark the release of Chance of a Start, is in fact a fundraiser for your favorite radio station and mine, WDVR-FM.
That being the case: For a very modest donation of $10 ($5 for 12 and under), you can join me and a formidable band-- armed with fiddle, mandolin, accordion, piano, bodhran, djembe, and whatever else they can sneak onstage while I'm not looking-- as we perform the lion's share of Chance of a Start, plus highlights from American Wake, plus some great Irish trad, plus some other surprises. And then it all wraps up with a grand auld seisiun where you can feel free to join us on your own instrument or to belt out a song for yerself.
Now, admission fee or not, that's a party if I've ever been to one. Reserve your tickets at http://WDVRFM.org/ or call 609-397-5991.
WDVR-FM's Fall Fundraiser
And speaking of raising funds for WDVR, the station's fall fundraiser is still a live project. If you're a fan of Celtic Sunday Brunch or any of the other dozens and dozens of shows, the station can really use your help. Call 609-397-1620 or visit http://WDVRFM.org/ for details.
You haven't bought Chance of a Start yet?
(No, seriously...?)
The sales team down here at PCHQ is still in a full-court-press, hovering over the phone-- I mean, phones... their phones... lots and lots of phones-- waiting to take your order, pack it up, and ship it out. Actually, don't bother calling-- visit ChanceOfAStart.com and get high-quality, text-enhanced mp3s instantly, to listen to while you're waiting for your exquisitely packaged CD to arrive through the snail mail.

Remember: Cancellations happen—please check in before heading out!
Recommendations
OK, elephant in the room: Is it a coincidence that in this issue I'm recommending the very people who gave such glowing reviews to Chance of a Start, above? Ummm...
Here's a better question: If these two recommendations weren't fabulous, would I boast about their good reviews? Zing.
- This Is Your Brain on Shamrocks: If yer mammy and daddy are off-the-boat Irish, hold Mike Farragher's book up to your face for a hilarious, zits-and-all look at yourself and your upbringing. If you're not, buy a copy and consider it a User's Manual for your first-generation spouse or friends. Be sure to join Mike's mailing list for updates on his new book, due in early 2013.
- TradConnect.com: In less than two years, TradConnect has grown from a speck on the web to a major trad destination and presence, with thousands of members-- including everyone from that guy at the pub who won't stop playing those effing spoons, to luminaries like Joanie Madden and Kevin Crawford. If you're an amateur or professional musician, I strongly encourage you to join, before they change their minds about membership being free.
