As we bade goodnight to the kindly folk of Hunterdon County, Freeholder Ron Sworen asked us if we'd do one more. Needless to say, we said we'd love to. Problem was, we'd barely had time to rehearse what we'd just performed, and we didn't have anything else ready.
I think it was Pete who suggested we do the Pogues' "If I Should Fall from Grace with God," followed by two reels, "The Pigtown Fling" and "Mrs. McLeod's" -- a combination that he, Randy, and I had performed for a short while, a long time ago, but which Mark had only played, as far as I'm aware, during the "cooldown" portion of our last rehearsal. Still, no one had any better ideas.
Now, I've been singing this song for more than two decades, but I'm not sure I ever enjoyed it as much as I did that night. Watch the video; I think you'll agree this was among the highlights of a great soiree.
As I watch this now, knowing that, in front of 600 people, we're more or less winging it, I'm even more gratified in my choice of collaborators this time around. So heaps of kudos and bales of thanks to Pete, Randy, and Mark.
As for you, dear reader, I hope you enjoyed the concert if you were there, and the videos if you weren't. Please leave a comment below or, better yet, join the mailing list!
You guys just laid it down.... more!!!
